Listen on the HF bands for YOTA-suffixed callsigns in December and younger operators trying out what Amateur Radio has to offer them. Heading the event is International Amateur Radio Union Region 1 Youth Working Group Chair, Lisa Leenders PA2LS.
YOTA or Youth On The Air stations by IARU Region 1 member societies, will be in a number of countries in that IARU region that includes Europe, Africa, Middle East and Northern Asia. Lisa PA2LS describes the idea as showing the Amateur Radio hobby to youth and to encouraging youngsters to be active an active ham.
In promotional material she encourages others to consider giving a demonstration in a school or at a local club, and make some QSO’s or enjoy a great pile-up. As Lisa PA2LS rightly claims: “Let us all show this great hobby to the world”.
While now a regular growing activity in some parts of the world, its introduction into the Asia-Pacific region will be considered by delegates at the IARU Region 3 Conference in Bali, Indonesia.
